New Seaside Interiors June '08, "Southampton, New York"

For Joe Nahem of Fox-Nahem, The Hamptons is “a very special place. It’s so unusual to have somewhere so tranquil next to a huge city like New York.” Still, this project for art collectors Danielle and David Ganek and their three children was anything but leisurely. “We got the house in April and they wanted it by the summer,” recalls Nahem. The structure may be simple enough. The location, however, is truly spectacular. Situated on a peninsula, it offers views of both the ocean and Shinnecock Bay. Working with the late Tom Fox, Nahem put on a new shingle roof and extended the entry hall to create a double-height space. Inside, vintage pieces and custom creations were assembled for a decidedly un-beachy look. Sturdy fabrics, however, remained a must. “The owners still wanted to be able to sit down in a wet bathing suit.”
